Higher Temperatures on the Way

The weekend was dreary here in the Commonwealth, with clouds and rain showers moving in through late Saturday. Sunday saw multiple rounds of showers, associated with the outer edge of a Nor’easter impacting the eastern US. Temperatures were fairly seasonable, leading to a chilly, rainy, and fall-like weekend.

Today is expected to also feature seasonable temperatures with similarly cloudy skies, yet no precipitation is expected. Winds have also calmed down a bit following a blustery weekend.

Heading into the middle of the week, temperatures are expected to increase to well-above average for this time of year. Conditions are expected to be drier throughout the next several days as a ridge promotes pleasant weather across the Commonwealth. However, more precipitation seems possible this weekend.

Impending Nor’easter

The Commonwealth has finally felt like fall throughout the past several days. High temperatures have been consistently in the 60s and lows have dipped down in the 40s and even 30s in some areas. Dry conditions have also been prevalent over these past few days.

Heading into today, expect abundant sunshine with temperatures rebounding in the lower 70s and a noticeable breeze. For the homecoming parade, expect temperatures in the 60s along with dry conditions. As we go into the overnight hours, dry conditions will persist and wind speeds will decrease.

For the Penn State football game against Wisconsin, clouds will start to encroach the region with temperatures in the mid to high 60s at kickoff. For Sunday, expect intermittent bands of rain associated with the presence of the Nor’easter impacting the coast. The amount of rain that reaches State College will depend on how close to the coast the system gets.

Rainy Start to Fall

We had a chilly start to the work week with temperatures slightly below average in the mid 50s to low 60s. The skies remained mostly cloudy throughout the day on Monday and into the afternoon. Heading into the evening we saw some rain and a light breeze to further cool down State College.

Currently, we are continuing to experience cooler conditions with on and off rain showers throughout the day. Overcast skies will persist along with light winds coming in from the east and shifting to our northeast later in the evening.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, winds will pick up slightly while still remaining only at a slight breeze. After midnight tonight, the rain will stop and leave behind partly cloudy skies for the rest of the day. Continuing into the rest of the week, skies will become more clear and temperatures will begin to rise into the low 70s.

Finally Feeling Like Fall

This weekend, we experienced some cloudy conditions on Saturday, with a few sprinkles during the football game. Temperatures weren’t too high on Saturday, however we received a decent amount of rainfall on Saturday night and Sunday. Temperatures also decreased with highs only in the mid-to-upper 60’s on Sunday.

Today, our temperatures will remain in the mid-to-upper 60’s, with rain showers arriving in later in the afternoon and into the evening. This will be the theme over the next couple days, as we are now in a more fall-like pattern.

Temperatures won’t improve much this week, but rain chances should diminish as we head into Tuesday afternoon. Later in the week, low temperatures in the northern tier of Pennsylvania could see some of the coolest temperatures since the spring.

Warm Front Brings Wet Conditions and Chances for Thunderstorms

Yesterday we saw some pretty hot humid conditions which made being outside quite uncomfortable, with temperatures peaking in the high eighties. Additionally, there were some spotty showers throughout the afternoon and evening that drenched anybody caught outside in them. Though, as the sun set the heat became more bearable without the rays of the sun.

Today started off relatively humid and warm. We will be seeing decreasing cloud cover throughout the day and temperatures peaking in the high seventies in the evening, making today a much more moderate day compared to yesterday. We can count today as a transition from humid conditions into a drier start to the weekend.

Saturday will bring us mostly cloudy conditions in the early morning with cloud cover decreasing as we get into the afternoon. Contrast to the higher temperatures we’ve been getting, tomorrow’s high will be in the low seventies which will bring good weather being outdoors. Though this nice weather won’t last for long as there are showers expected Saturday night.

Dry Air Under The Ridge — Is It Fall Yet?

Over the past few days, temperatures have been a bit above average due to a ridge in the vicinity of the Commonwealth. Skies have been partly cloudy over most of the state, further contributing to rather nice conditions.

Tuesday has already proven to be the most fall-like day we have had so far: while skies are clear and temperatures continue to climb to the low 70s, dew points are down into the low 50s and even upper 40s. Autumn crispness has been hard to come by this first half of September, so one surely can appreciate a pleasant warm and dry day with a light breeze like we have today.

More unsettled weather seems likely in the next few days. Wednesday should be muggy again with some clouds and showers possible, while Thursday may have some rumbles of thunder in the north and western portions of the Commonwealth, timing dependent, of course, on when a cold front passes through. We should dry out again once this passes through, but more rain is possible for the weekend. This may be where Pennsylvania and the Northeast finally enters a more sustained fall pattern, but a few hits of warmth next week can’t be ruled out.

Temperature Rollercoaster on the Way

Across the Commonwealth, the weekend was characterized by warm, humid, and wet conditions. Saturday and Sunday night both brought periods of showers and sustained rain to much of the region. Otherwise, temperatures were above average and conditions were muggy with times of clouds and sun.

Temperatures are noticeably lower across the western and central portions of the state today, as a cold front moved through the region recently. Drier weather, lower temperatures, and more comfortable conditions are expected throughout the day today into tomorrow. Overnight, fog is possible in various areas.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rise once again to above seasonal average as we head into the midweek timeframe. The latter part of the week is also expected to be warm, with unsettled conditions making a return. There will be multiple chances for showers across Thursday and Friday, as well as heading into the weekend.

Comfortable Conditions Coming

Above average temperatures have been prevalent throughout the Commonwealth over the past several days. After a week of high humidity, the presence of a cold front will bring less muggy conditions. Conditions have also been characterized by particularly sunny skies.

For today above average temperatures are expected to continue, the air will feel refreshing in comparison to the past few days. Brilliant sunshine is expected with a passing cloud or two overnight. Cloud cover will begin to build overnight and into this weekend.

Tomorrow is expected to be overcast early with showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. For the Penn State vs. Temple game in Philadelphia, cloudy conditions are expected with the possibility of a stray shower. Looking ahead, drier conditions are expected heading into Sunday and the start of next work week.

Warmth Holds, But Rain Lurks

Last week in the Commonwealth was absolutely plagued with both humidity and severe thunderstorms as part of an unusually persistent Northwest Flow pattern. A backdoor cold front on Saturday finally flushed the moisture away, and left us with a stunningly pleasant Labor Day Weekend. High temps hovered around the upper-70s, and one would have been hard-pressed to find a cloud in the sky from Saturday all the way into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday seems set to continue that pattern. We should see a few more clouds than the previous days roll in, but temperatures are still expected reach the high-70s and even low-80s. A little extra humidity may make things feel a bit less comfortable, but still nothing like last week. Overall, a very pleasant early-fall day.

The pattern looks to be more unsettled as the week goes on. Wednesday will begin much like Tuesday did, but expect more clouds and at least one round of showers overnight with the occasional rumble of thunder. A few showers may linger into Thursday before skies clear up again. We then will see another pleasant day in Friday, with temperatures now sitting in the low- to mid-70s, closer to average. Another frontal system and lingering showers will move through starting Saturday PM and lasting through Sunday, before we once again have crisp but warm conditions for the new workweek.

Beautiful Weekend in Store

We have experienced an active pattern over the Commonwealth throughout the past several days. Severe weather has impacted many parts of the state including a near-record high for the daily amount of precipitation in September for State College. Heat and humidity have also been prevalent throughout Pennsylvania, and that will continue throughout today.

For today expect high temperatures in the lower 80s along with muggy dew points in the lower 70s. Even though parts of southwestern PA could deal with showers and thunderstorms today, the majority of the state will remain dry. As we head into the overnight hours, the dew points will decrease, leading to more comfortable conditions for this weekend.

For tomorrow, it is looking like a beautiful day for the Penn State football game against Marshall. Lower temperatures accompanied by lower humidity will create for nice conditions for the game and for the latter part of the weekend.
