Last week in the Commonwealth was absolutely plagued with both humidity and severe thunderstorms as part of an unusually persistent Northwest Flow pattern. A backdoor cold front on Saturday finally flushed the moisture away, and left us with a stunningly pleasant Labor Day Weekend. High temps hovered around the upper-70s, and one would have been hard-pressed to find a cloud in the sky from Saturday all the way into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday seems set to continue that pattern. We should see a few more clouds than the previous days roll in, but temperatures are still expected reach the high-70s and even low-80s. A little extra humidity may make things feel a bit less comfortable, but still nothing like last week. Overall, a very pleasant early-fall day.

The pattern looks to be more unsettled as the week goes on. Wednesday will begin much like Tuesday did, but expect more clouds and at least one round of showers overnight with the occasional rumble of thunder. A few showers may linger into Thursday before skies clear up again. We then will see another pleasant day in Friday, with temperatures now sitting in the low- to mid-70s, closer to average. Another frontal system and lingering showers will move through starting Saturday PM and lasting through Sunday, before we once again have crisp but warm conditions for the new workweek.

Hot, humid, and stormy conditions are expected to remain in place across the Commonwealth through the end of the week. Wednesday featured a tropical air mass in place, with dew points in the low to mid 70s, and high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s and low 90s. Multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms rolled through from Northwest to Southeast, spreading heavy rain, plentiful lightning, and strong gusty winds. Multiple locations in central Pennsylvania reported flash flooding overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, as training thunderstorms dropped over 2 inches of rainfall.

Thursday will be a wash, rinse, repeat day, with temperatures soaring into the 80s and 90s statewide, and dew points ranging from the upper 60s to mid 70s. Another round of strong gusty thunderstorms is expected to move into the Commonwealth later on this afternoon, between 3 and 10pm. Storms could also produce another round of isolated flash flooding. Be sure to practice best flash flood safety when encountering any standing or flowing waters. Turn Around Don’t Drown! Have a way to access weather alerts this afternoon for both the severe weather and flash flood risks.

Friday will see little change for most of the Commonwealth, with storms still expected across the Pittsburgh metro area. The locations that have the best chance for some relief will be in Northeast Pennsylvania, where dew points can fall back into the 50s. Saturday will be a much nicer day, with dropping dew points, and drier conditions. These drier and more comfortable conditions will persist through the remainder of the Labor Day holiday weekend. The Commonwealth is coming off a beautiful weekend, with above average temperatures and partly sunny conditions. Clouds developed overnight, with spotty showers spanning the region throughout the early morning.

Conditions are currently very humid, with overcast skies and seasonable temperatures. Heavy downpours are still impacting the northern section of Pennsylvania.

Looking ahead, the weather conditions are looking to be tumultuous, with severe storms possible throughout multiple days this week. These storms will be fueled by rising temperatures and humidity that will intensify mid-week.

Over the weekend, we experienced rainy conditions and cooler temperatures after a mild Friday and later part of last week. Rain enveloped Pennsylvania on Saturday, making for soggy conditions, before a cloudy and cooler Sunday. On Monday, temperatures reached the high 60s and low 70s throughout the Commonwealth with sunny conditions.

Today, Central Pennsylvania will experience slightly cooler temperatures with cloudy conditions and occasional rain showers, with high temperatures reaching the upper 50s. The Eastern and Western portions of Pennsylvania being slightly warmer with temperatures reaching the low 60s. This is ahead of more rain we will experience tomorrow as a low pressure system works its way east, bringing with it a washout for your Wednesday with cooler temperatures.

Later in the week, we can expect cooler temperatures, with highs hovering right around 50 degrees as colder air from Canada works its way southward. Spotty rain chances are expected on Friday, after sunny conditions on Thursday.
