A significant severe weather outbreak is possible across the Mid-Atlantic and extending into Pennsylvania throughout the afternoon and evening hours on Monday. Over 120 million people are in a risk area from the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center (SPC) today.

Synopsis
A rather robust setup will be impacting our region early this week, which will spark the potential for severe weather. Multiple low pressure systems will develop along a stationary front across the Great Lakes region. A low pressure system that will develop over Michigan and surrounding areas will be the one we will be closely watching. A cold front will stem from it, which may become occluded closer to the low, which will force for thunderstorms to develop across the region. Additionally, a surface trough east of the Appalachian Mountains will serve as another focal point for thunderstorm development.
The second named storm in the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season is currently forecast to impact the Lesser Antilles Thursday night into Friday. Abnormally warm waters have allowed Bret to strengthen into a strong tropical storm. It is currently moving west at about 14 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph with stronger gusts. Bret’s intensity is not likely to change much before it impacts the Lesser Antilles, but shortly after it enters the Caribbean it is expected to weaken. Strong wind shear in the atmosphere will tear the storm apart as it tracks towards Mexico. Bret is not forecast to impact the United States.
