Severe Weather Chances

The last 24 hours featured conditions building up to today’s severe weather risk. High dew points were ushered in this morning setting up a moist environment for storm development alongside high amounts of energy needed for thunderstorms.

 

State College is in a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms, although the bulk of forecasted shower and storms is set to take place well east of University Park. Expect rain and thunder after 6 pm tonight with a mainly wind driven risk. Damaging wind gusts capable of downing branches are expected and anyone in the risk area should remain weather aware.

 

Looking beyond today, State College remains in an active weather pattern for the next 48 hours. The area will remain under a Storm Prediction Center risk through the end of Thursday, which features the largest area of severe storm risk in Pennsylvania for the whole week. Early model guidance is unclear on if the Penn State Football home opener against Marshall’s Thundering Herd will remain dry, however the scale is leaning in favor of clear conditions at kick off.
