Temperature Advection

The following pictures show different scenarios of temperature advection. The right picture depicts a tight gradient with a 15 knot wind. The left diagram shows a weak gradient with the same 15 knot wind. In terms of advection, the right diagram shows stronger temperature advection because the gradient of temperature changes more rapidly over a given distance.

The bottom diagram has the same gradient but a stronger wind compared to the upper left diagram. Therefore, it can be concluded that this bottom diagram illustrates the greater advection.

In conclusion, it is important to remember that advection of any variable is determined by two parameters: the gradient and the wind speed.
